We had dinner at the Tasman last night, prior to going to a symphony concert next door. We were offered the choice of a 2 course or 3 course pre-concert meal, and chose the 2-course option – in our case mains and dessert/cheese. The meal was excellent (grilled salmon, rib roast, followed by chocolate mousse and a cheese plate). The service was also fantastic, although a little slow closer to concert time. But we had given ourselves 2 hours, so there was no problem. Must go back soon and choose from the full menu.

We really enjoyed our dinner at this restaurant. The staff were fast and efficient, and helpful with wine advice. WE both ordered the eye fillet rare, with potato mash, onion rings and bacon jam. The fillet was outstanding – cooked to rare perfection. The potato mash was lovely and creamy, and the crispy little bits of onion great additions. Not sure about that bacon jam though – it had no discernible flavour. The wine list is interesting, with lots of Tasmanian offerings. Pity we could not fit in dessert.

We booked for dinner less than an hour before we hoped to dine and had no trouble.

Started with scallops which were well cooked and flavour balanced.
Mains, we chose lamb loin and pork fillet which were both cooked perfectly at medium rare. Of the two the lamb was our favourite as it had more elements adding flavour and texture to the dish.
The pork was also very good.

Kids ordered rigatoni which was perfect for them, they ate everything!

The girls shared the hazelnut brownie which was nice but possibly a little small for the price.

Recommended for a fine dining evening where quality ingredients and flavour is important.

The Tasmanian eye fillet steak was perfectly cooked, accompanied by baby broccolini and a green salad. The Tassel salmon was served, skin on crunchy, with chips to match. The menu although not large provided for a wide range of tastes. The dining room overlooks the waterfront. The young wait staff were enthusiastic and helpful.

Nothing better after travelling all day than to sit quietly in a restaurant eating delicious food & sipping delightful wine. After booking into the Hotel Grand Chancellor my wife & I were able to book for dinner into the hotel restaurant, Tasman. I am in an electric wheelchair & the restaurant is fully accessible. Staff were attentive & friendly. Food very good & chef willing to make adaptions to the meal to suit diets. We also had breakfast there as well. Continental or full breakfast offered. Great selection for both styles. Well worth the visit.

Seated looking out to the wharf, twinkling lights, people out walking on a warm balmy night, we enjoyed a dinner from an a la carte menu. The food was delicious, the wine, followed by dessert were memorable. We also enjoyed viewing an exhibition of paintings on two levels. A lovely night!

The Duck rillettes and scallop entrees were very nice (go the scallops), both beef dishes were very tasty, my partner had the fillet of beef and claimed the sauce was the best she has ever tasted (what have I been doing wrong all these years).

Do yourself a favour and treat yourself to a meal at Restaurant Tasman. The food and wine are brilliant and the service is wonderful. If you are at a loss New Year’s Eve book a table and sit back and enjoy the fireworks, you won’t be disappointed. We have enjoyed seeing in the last 4 New Years with great food and wine and the outstanding service of Restaurant Tasman. You need to book early as plenty of regulars attend this function.

We dined here one evening during our stay as we’d been out all day and didn’t feel like wandering out again and thought we would try the restaurant in the hotel.

We weren’t disappointed good service and food. Not a huge selection but they did a great job and the table are nicely spaced out so it doesn’t feel like your sitting on top of the next table.

We have tried this restaurant as we have stayed at Grand Chancellor hotel. It was an amazing experience as it was quite and we had our dinner there. We have ordered Salmon which was amazing. Dinner at the Tasman was awesome. Really hadn’t fancied going there for dinner as we both felt like steak but we were struggling to find vacancies at short notice. Well…our last choice was one of the best we’ve ever made. The service was fast and friendly and the food was to die for.
Unable to decide we went with the chef’s menu. The $16 duck entree was amazing and the salad flavours were indescribable, not overpowering but an enhancing accompaniment to the finely sliced duck. The pickled walnuts were a nice addition.
The $35 hangar wagyu steak was so tender and the Huon mushroom and spinach combination together with a caramelised onion sauce and toasted almonds was a perfect finish.
The chef’s menu suggested a Pages Creek pinot noir rose and he was right. A second glass went down a treat.
On a side note we returned in the morning for the full buffet breakfast, not the cheapest at $25 but for what was on offer, good value and very tasty.

The night that we visited this restaurant it was quite busy but even so the service was fast and friendly. My wife and I both ordered a rare eye fillet and it was cooked perfectly and was tender as it should be.
We had a bottle of wine between us but I must say that the prices for wine were expensive. There was a House wine for about $30 a bottle but if you didn’t like this then you were looking at over $40 or $50.
All in all we would recommend this as a fine dining restaurant.

We arrived as a party of five for a celebratory night out for our friends birthday and from the moment we walked into the restaurant and left some three hours later we were treated to the most courteous, professional and a level service that would be hard to better.
From the delightful Maddie who was so attentive and helpful to the brilliant manager, Jade we have had a night to long remember. The wine list was comprehensive and well priced, the menu was varied and catered for all tastes.
The meals when they arrived were beautifully presented and flavoursome making the most of the Tasmanian produce.
Jade was extremely attentive, being sure to check that we were being well cared for throughout the evening and passing on information about the menu.
The position of the Restaurant Tasman is another draw card, situated as it is on the ground floor with floor to ceiling windows overlooking constitution dock.
It is often rare to find such a well managed and serviced restaurant in large hotels where you as a customer are treated with a real and genuine appreciation of your visit.
We cannot thank Jade, Maddy and all the staff who looked after us so beautifully.
We cannot imagine anyone being less than delighted with their evening out at this excellent restaurant.

We had dinner here whilst staying at the hotel. We enjoyed our entre of house cured ocean trout and the main course of seared Tassal salmon was cooked to perfection but my piece had a few bones which is unforgivable for a restaurant that prides itself in delivering top-notch food! The vanilla crème brulee was very good.

Service was attentive and the courses were well-paced.

If you have a penchant for healthy degustation menus in a waterfront dining setting with relaxed vibes, Restaurant Tasman will definitely reel you in with its unbridled culinary talents. My family was there in December and was amazed by the exceptionally good modern infusion of sous vide and seared cooking techniques. We decided to enter as TripAdvisor reviews promoted it as a palate of esculent foods. True enough, we found each ingredient was prepared with reverential care that paid homage to authentic Tasmanian culture!

My favourite is the house signature Focaccia, where a fragrant light fluffy crust gives way to hints of sharp spicy notes in the sauce dip. Must try for the discerning diner would be the Taste Plate of the Sea, where your taste buds are enveloped in a delicate balance of a myriad of tastes: thick succulent salmon slice and fresh oysters baked in seaweed butter & sour dough crumbs, well balanced with astringent flavour of raw lemon, then finished with a delightful twist: the organic union of purple lettuce and scallops that is also not too intrusive on the palate. Plus…. It’s the perfect sharing platter option as it’s all served fresh on shaved ice that does not melt easily! We tucked into the main courses of Sous vide pork cutlet & seared crispy skin Huon salmon in deep appreciation of the fine culinary skills.

We went there for a family dinner after two nights at the Taste of Tasmania. We needed a quiet break with good food. And we found both! The service is attentive and well paced. We attended one of Restaurant Tasman’s regular degustation dining events – this one was a five course meal matched to Marion Bay wines. The setting is a real bonus with the dining area facing the harbour through a full-width glass wall – great atmosphere. About 40-50 customers attended the event which had to be booked in advance. Staff were fast, professional and interacted well with the diners at our table. The fixed menu was beautifully presented with general agreement at our table that three of the courses were absolutely fantastic! The winemaker attended the evening and gave a short and eloquent presentation on each wine. Good fun, good food – we have already planned to attend the next event!

Went to the restaurant after a family loss, so the mood was somber, but on arrival we were shown to our lovely table with the view of the docks, Joan our waitress was attentive and we ordered three starters which came promptly, the salt and pepper squid was a high light. Our mains came after a short break and again we were impressed with all three. Normally that would have been enough but we even ordered sweets as we had enjoyed both previous courses, and again we loved them. We could have easily found a reason to be disappointed on the evening because of the reason we came out, but on reflection the restaurant Tasman was wonderful.
